Your membership at the OSCPA
May 04, 2023
At the OSCPA, we are always striving to make your membership worthwhile. Let's take a look at some of the highlights for the 2022-23 membership year.
Plus, find out what you can look forward to in the upcoming membership year!
- New OSCPA Headquarters: In October, the OSCPA moved offices for the first time in 26 years to improve your member experience. The OSCPA also began hosting many of its in-person CPE events in The Meeting Room, a new event space just a few doors down from our offices.
- Advocacy Day: Making sure our members have an opportunity to advocate for themselves and the profession is one of our number one priorities. The OSCPA's Advocacy Day gave members a chance to dive deeper into the process of Oklahoma lawmakers. Speakers Attorney General Drummond, Benny Vanatta and Cynthia Byrd were able to answer questions members had regarding the Oklahoma legislative process. Attendees were also given the opportunity to travel to the State Capitol to speak with local legislators.
- 20 Free CPE: Last year was the first year the OSCPA offered 20 hours of free CPE for members! More than 2,800 members took advantage of this perk. This year, OSCPA members who choose to renew their membership will once again receive 20 hours worth of free CPE, now valued at $880! Click here to view this year's 20 free CPE catalog.
- GAA Conference: Last year, the OSCPA kicked off the new fiscal year with its annual Governmental Accounting and Auditing Conference in Norman on May 5-6. More than 370 members received GAA updates from popular speakers, two of which included our very own, Frank Crawford, CPA, and Christopher Pembrook, CPA, MBA, CGAP, Cr.FA, who have spoken to CPAs across the nation at other states' governmental conferences due to their significant involvement with the AICPA Government Audit Quality Board/GASB.
- Annual Members Meeting: The OSCPA hosted its Annual Members Meeting in Norman. Every year, OSCPA members gather for this event filled with professional development and networking opportunities. Join us for this year's two-day, in-person-only event in Durant at Choctaw Casino & Resort.
- Beach Conference: Hosted in Gulf Shores, Ala., the OSCPA's Beach Conference gave OSCPA members the chance to earn up to 20 hours of CPE on the beach! This conference also provided a unique opportunity for our members to mingle with members of the Louisiana and Alabama CPA societies. This year, the OSCPA has partnered with the Louisiana and Alabama societies again as well as the Florida and Arkansas societies to bring you a unique CPE and networking experience. This event sells out quickly, so click here and register today!
- Kurt Oestriecher Symposium: More than 200 OSCPA members attended this two-day virtual conference, taught by one of the OSCPA's most popular speakers. This year, Oestriecher will be returning to tackle the AICPA Professional Ethics and give a comprehensive review of the requirements necessary to properly conduct a compilation engagement under SSARS.
- Day of Service: Also in October, the OSCPA hosted its annual Day of Service at The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Hefner and Upward Transitions. More than 100 members spread the love during this day-long event. Many firms also elected to partner up with their own organizations to show their support.
- Federal Tax Update: In December, nationally known speaker Ron Roberson, CPA, returned to the OSCPA for his One-Day Federal Tax Update, which sold out in person! Roberson came back in January to give a two-day version of this event, which covered everything tax professionals need to know leading up to tax season. Roberson will return for both the one-day and two-day Federal Tax Update this year.
- DEI Summit: The OSCPA's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee sponsored its first-ever DEI Summit on Nov. 16, 2022. This event covered a myriad of DEI topics; including initiatives on a state and national level, DEI in the workplace and offered up to six hours worth of free CPE for members. The OSCPA also hosted the Leadership, Accounting Educators, Small Firms Management and Banking & Industry Summits and will continue to offer a new range of topics for its 2023-24 Summit Series.
- Career Development Workshop:
The OSCPA's Career Development Workshop is the biggest student events hosted at the OSCPA. This helpful workshop gave more than 30 accounting students the opportunity to ask questions and build a strong foundation for their future as CPAs. During the event, students attended a panel hosted by practicing CPAs, practiced professional networking, received headshots and attended mock interviews.
