OSCPA Advocacy Update

May 26, 2022

Blaine PetersonThe 2022 legislative session is nearing the end as the Oklahoma Legislature and Gov. Stitt finalize the state’s budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year.

This process includes consideration of a multitude of revenue and appropriation bills necessary to achieve the proposed $9.84 billion budget currently proposed. Many of the proposed tax reductions have stalled but could resurface in the final hours of session.

These include proposed tax cuts to income tax, franchise tax and sales tax on groceries. In any event, the OSCPA Advocacy Team is monitoring this process and will continue to share any key developments.

Also, the OSCPA Meet Your Legislator event held at the State Capitol on May 4 was a great success.

OSCPA members heard legislative updates from State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd, CPA, Sen. Tom Dugger, CPA, and Rep. Gerrid Kendrix, CPA, as they shared key developments affecting the CPA profession.

Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with other legislators in attendance, including Sen. Mary Quinn, Sen. Roland Pederson, and Sen. Adam Pugh, as well as Rep. Avery Frix, Rep. Mike Dobrinski and Rep. Nicole Miller.

Overall, it was a great experience representing the CPA profession in person at the Capitol for the first time since March of 2020.

Finally, the first votes for the 2022 election cycle are only one month away. The primary elections will be held on June 28, 2022.

Many races will be determined in the primary elections and the subsequent runoffs on Aug. 23, 2022. Accordingly, the CPA-PAC will be hard at work engaging with legislative candidates on behalf of Oklahoma CPAs.

Your annual contribution to the CPA-PAC is vital to continue growing our relationships with the Oklahoma legislature. We hope to continue the success of the 2022 session into 2023 and beyond!
