The Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Staff Accountant to join our growing CPA firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and be experienced in bookkeeping, payroll processing, and tax preparation for small business clients and individuals. This position involves direct client interaction and requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to provide excellent client service.
How You’ll Make an Impact Bookkeeping: o Maintain accurate financial records for small business clients using accounting software (QuickBooks Online). o Record day-to-day financial transactions, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Payroll Processing: o Manage payroll for small business clients, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing. o File payroll taxes and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. o Prepare and issue W-2s, 1099s, and other payroll-related reports. Tax Preparation: o Assist in the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and small businesses. o Gather and organize client financial data for tax preparation, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. o Assist in researching tax-related issues and advising clients on tax strategies. Client Support: o Provide excellent customer service by answering client inquiries and addressing bookkeeping, payroll, and tax-related questions. o Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to help clients manage their business finances effectively. o Assist in onboarding new clients and training them on bookkeeping software, as needed. General Accounting Duties: o Assist in maintaining accurate financial records for the firm. o Collaborate with the senior accountant and other team members on special projects, audits, and financial reviews. Stay updated on changes in tax laws, payroll regulations, and accounting standards.
Who You Are · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. · 1-3 years of experience in bookkeeping, payroll processing, and tax preparation, preferably in a public accounting firm or small business setting. · Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online) and MS Office, particularly Excel. · Strong knowledge of GAAP, federal and state tax regulations, and payroll laws. · Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks. · Strong verbal and written communication skills for client interactions. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Some Preferred Qualifications · Experience with small business accounting clients in various industries. · Familiarity with tax preparation software (i.e., Drake).
