National Pipeline Advisory Group Releases Accounting Pipeline Insights
August 13, 2024
Accounting offers various career paths, providing rewarding and in-demand jobs across every industry. However, the profession faces challenges due to outdated perceptions and a shrinking talent pool.
In 2023, the National Pipeline Advisory Group (NPAG) was established to develop a comprehensive strategy to address the ongoing talent shortage in the accounting field. The NPAG's recently released Accounting Talent Strategy Report delves into the latest pipeline data, examines the root causes of the profession's attrition, and offers potential solutions and next steps. The recommendations are organized into six key themes:
- Make the academic experience more engaging
- Address the time and cost of education
- Grow support for CPA Exam candidates
- Prioritize strategies to expand access for underrepresented groups
- Enhance the employee experience by evolving business models and cultures
- Tell a more compelling story about accounting careers
These themes were first introduced in NPAG's draft strategy report released in May 2024. The updated report includes the latest data on accounting enrollment, results from NPAG's national survey, and additional context to inform the profession’s future direction.
