Q&A with Melisa Galasso
OSCPA: What information will attendees be able to take away from your sessions?
Melisa: Both sessions are jam-packed with updates. The AICPA and Yellow Book session will cover quality management, ethics changes, and recent proposals regarding changes to audit standards. The Single Audit session will cover the changes in the Uniform Guidance changes but also recent risk assessment changes and the FDTA.
OSCPA: What experiences in your career helped deepen your expertise in accounting and auditing standards?
Melisa: I've served on a number of committees, and each has helped me build my technical skills. I started with the NCACPA's A&A Committee, then I joined the AICPA's Technical Issues Committee, which was probably one of my favorite volunteer opportunities. Now I serve on Enforcement and FinREC. Helping provide feedback as standards are developing helps me stay ahead of the curve!
OSCPA: What makes your sessions, "AICPA and Yellow Book Auditing Standards Update" and "Single Audit and Compliance Auditing Update," unique?
Melisa: They include a variety of topics. Given all the activities that are going on, it'll be a fast-paced update with lots of things to review.
OSCPA: What inspired you to start Galasso Learning Solutions?
Melisa: I wanted to move CPE from being compliance-driven to being engaging and relevant. We pride ourselves on providing CPE that is always up to date. I'm famous for making changes to presentations for something that happened that day! But I also believe that learners come with lots of experience, so we leverage the best in adult learning theory to engage and let them share their input and experiences!
