What He Has to Say

OSCPA: Why did you decide to become a CPA?

Neumeister: I decided to become a CPA after an inspiring high school accounting class where my teacher made the subject engaging and full of potential. My passion grew in graduate school, especially during advanced tax courses and a memorable mock IRS appeals conference. I thrive on the challenge of convincing tax authorities that my clients are right, making the CPA profession a perfect fit for my skills and interests.

OSCPA: What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?

Neumeister: The most rewarding part of my career has been helping those who need and appreciate my assistance. Through my work, I've developed life-long relationships with clients, fellow practitioners, and others.  Whether as a sole practitioner, a leader at a Fortune 100 company, or a partner in a large local firm, each role has allowed me to make a meaningful impact.

My CPA journey has taken me into practice areas I didn’t even know existed when the journey began.

OSCPA: What advice would you give to students pursuing accounting degrees and/or new CPA’s?

Neumeister: My best advice for students pursuing accounting degrees and new CPAs is to embrace life-long learning. Continuously acquire skills not only in accounting but also in other disciplines. Be open to opportunities that may seem unconventional or non-standard. Building a network of trusted colleagues and finding a mentor are crucial steps. These relationships and diverse experiences will enrich your career and help you navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the accounting profession.

OSCPA: What are your hopes for and/or expectations of the future of the accounting profession?

Neumeister: As CPAs, our future lies in upholding the highest standards of ethical behavior and reinforcing our self-regulation model. By leading with integrity and providing sound business advice, we can remain at the forefront of the profession. Embracing these principles not only ensures trust and credibility but also highlights the rewarding and enjoyable aspects of being a CPA. Let's continue to set the bar high and demonstrate the value and fun in our profession.
