2022 Day of Service impacts community

October 27, 2022

On Friday, October 21, 135 OSCPA members rallied together to participate in the OSCPA's 9th annual CPA Day of Service.

The group of volunteers included seven firms, two university groups, plus individual volunteers and OSCPA staff.

Volunteers made their impact at nonprofits across Oklahoma City, which included OKC Beautiful, Upward Transitions and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma

Regional Food Bank volunteers 2022The OSCPA had 64 members volunteer at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. Our volunteers were able to provide 4,321 meals to those in need, including 1,835 children.

"The act of volunteering at a food bank gives us accounting folk a chance to give back and also indulge in some work/life balance," OSCPA Member and Volunteer Riley Shaull, CPA, CFFM, said. "Did we really stamp out hunger? The answer is no, but to those 4,131 people, for a weekend we did."

OKC Beautiful

Day of Service stars and stripes parkOKC Beautiful has more than 50 years of leading Oklahoma City's beautification and environmental stewardship through collaboration, education and advocacy.

Thirty-six OSCPA members joined OKC Beautiful at Stars and Stripes at Lake Hefner to participate in a Litter Blitz to help clean up the park.

Volunteers were able to fill more than 15 trash bags with litter to help leave the park cleaner.

Upward Transitions

dosVolunteers helped Upward Transitions in Oklahoma City serve families and individuals who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, as well as those needing stabilizing resources to help meet basic social needs.

Those who participated assisted with filing and database entry work needed by the nonprofit.

"Upward Transitions loves the [OSCPA] volunteers," an Upward Transitions representative said. "We appreciate those who continue to support our work year after year, providing helping hands around the office."

Make-A-Wish Foundation Oklahoma

Those who were unable to volunteer in person showed their support virtually by making donations to Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses.

The OSCPA's CPA Day of Service shows how much Oklahoma CPAs care for their community. Thank you to all who participated!
