CPA Day at the Capitol reaches record-breaking attendance

March 31, 2022

The OSCPA hosted its annual CPA Day at the Capitol on Wednesday with record-breaking attendance.

Oklahoma legislators and 70 OSCPA members joined together to discuss how specific bills affecting the CPA profession travel through the Oklahoma Legislature. Speakers included:

  • Speaker of the House Charles McCall;
  • Fellow OSCPA Member Rep. Gerrid Kendrix, CPA;
  • Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell; and
  • OSCPA President and CEO Blaine Peterson, CPA.
In addition to learning about the legislative process and bills currently in the legislature, attendees and speakers discussed the key issues and values in the profession that inform the Society's advocacy.

“The Day at the Capitol was a remarkable time with three very good speakers," the Chair of the OSCPA's CPA-PAC, Rob Sellers, CPA, said. "I think all those that attended found the information useful and gained better insight on what is going on currently in the Capitol.”

The speakers discussed the unqiue perspectives and insight that CPAs can offer legislators and called on Oklahoma's CPAs to get involved by meeting with their representatives.

"Every representative either uses a CPA or knows a CPA. We are the trusted advisors," Kendrix said. "I believe we can have an impact on the decisions and the fiscal consequences of so many things that go on in this state."

Member advocacy doesn't end with the CPA Day at the Capitol. By incorporating your voice, the OSCPA's advocacy efforts are strengthened.

Opportunities to get involved include contributing to the CPA-PAC, joining the legislative contact program, staying informed about the progress of bills that affect Oklahoma's CPAs and more
